ZP-102

Zinc dialkyldithiophosphate — primary C8

Pure primary C8. The most hydrolytically stable grade in the ZDDP range, which is why it is the one specified for hydraulic fluids that will see water ingress and for long-drain industrial service.

Grades a formulator would benchmark ZP-102 against. Naming them is not a claim of equivalence — it is where to start the comparison.

The chemistry

Zinc Dialkyldithiophosphates

Antiwear, antioxidant and corrosion inhibitor in one molecule

Typical treat rate0.5 – 1.5 %

Still the most cost-effective antiwear chemistry ever commercialised. Primary alkyl ZDDPs are thermally more stable and preferred in industrial and heavy-duty applications; secondary alkyls decompose at lower temperature and film faster, which is why they dominate passenger-car engine oils. Alcohol chain length sets both the thermal stability and the hydrolytic stability.
