MD-330

Tolyltriazole derivative

Tolyltriazole — better oil solubility than plain benzotriazole and the version most European turbine-oil specifications assume. The methyl group is what keeps it in the oil phase.

Typical values, not a specification. The binding specification is the one on the certificate of analysis issued against each batch.

The chemistry

Yellow Metal Deactivators

Copper passivation and catalytic-oxidation suppression

Typical treat rate0.02 – 0.5 %

Triazoles and thiadiazoles chelate onto copper and its alloys. Two jobs at once: they stop the metal from being attacked, and they stop dissolved copper ions from catalysing oxidation of the base oil. In a turbine or gear oil, omitting these is how you get a fluid that fails oxidation testing for reasons nobody can explain.
